Petoskey
Rooted in Odawa history and named for Chief Petosega, Petoskey grew as a Lake Michigan transportation, lumber, and commercial center. Today it is Emmet County’s year-round hub for healthcare, education, shopping, dining, tourism, and professional services.
Harbor Springs
Harbor Springs sits within the traditional Odawa homeland once known to French settlers as L’Arbre Croche. Its protected harbor later helped shape a nationally recognized resort community that today blends historic neighborhoods, waterfront living, galleries, dining, and a strong seasonal market.
Boyne City
Boyne City developed around lumber, manufacturing, and its strategic location on Lake Charlevoix. It is now a lively year-round waterfront community with an active downtown, nearby recreation, manufacturing employment, and convenient access to the Boyne resort corridor.
Gaylord
Gaylord grew as a railroad community and county seat, later becoming known for its Alpine-themed downtown. Its I-75 location now makes it an important regional center for retail, healthcare, industry, outdoor recreation, golf, and winter tourism.
Traverse City
Traverse City developed from its waterfront, sawmill, railroad, and agricultural roots into Northern Michigan’s largest regional center. Today its economy is supported by healthcare, education, professional services, tourism, food and wine, technology, and an expanding year-round housing market.
